Training on Advanced Soil Testing_ January 19-21, 2023

A 3-day training on ‘Advanced Soil Testing’ was conducted from January 19-21, 2023, for PWD Engineers and Overseers interested in expanding their knowledge in soil testing. The objective of the training was to impart knowledge on conducting advanced soil testing as per relevant standards for determining the engineering properties of soil required for designing a stable foundation of any civil engineering structure. The trainer was Sri Chikkanna Thimmaiah, Lead Engineer - Laboratory, Sarathy Geotech &Engineering Services Pvt Ltd, Bangalore. The first two days of the program covered a demonstration of advanced soil tests viz., Triaxial (UU, CU & CD), Direct Shear, Relative Density, Vane Shear, Swell Pressure Index, Field Density (Sand Replacement method), Consolidation, and Permeability. On the last day, an overview of laboratory testing of soil was presented by the trainer; there was also an interactive session with the trainer where the trainees could clarify their doubts on soil testing.
